The way I see it, synthetic is a better fit for air-cooled engines. It stays more fluid at cold temps, which reduces wear on startup, and retains it's viscosity at higher temps, which reduces wear when riding for long periods in hot weather. Considering that air-cooled engines run hot by design, synthetic is good insurance against wear.
