Tank lift on Breakout
#11
Here's my bike as she sits right now with the tank lift. As you can see, it picks the tank up off the engine and exposes it so you can see more of it.
And here's what it looked like before...
Yes, messes up the gas gauge (shows empty be fore you are) and makes the fuel light come on before it should, but it's a trade off. Never trusted the fuel gauge anyway...

I never use the gauge anyway, I fill up by mileage for the most part. Thanks for the link to your thread, Hoggy. I read the whole thing and a member used some gasket material to cover the hole, I think I will give that a try. I ordered another tank seal since it was only $11 and will fab a new seal with it and the gasket material.

Many, possibly 50% or more do the tank lift for a different look and for easier access to the rocker boxes for cleaning.
However, on a Twin Cam, a tank lift will lower the engine temps by 10-15 degrees. This is no small thing on the newer bikes that are running so hot from the factory.
Besides allowing more air to flow over the engine (instead of the tank trapping the heat) it also re-orients the front of the tank so less air comes over the top of the tank. Many riders experience a significant reduction in buffeting as a result.
