New 2015 Fatboy is officially broken in!
Well, I was able to hit 500 miles after a long weekend of a lot of riding. Per the manual for the 2015 Softails, you are supposed to keep the RPMs below 3,000RPMs for the first 50 miles and below 3,500 RPMs for the first 500 miles. And NEVER LUG THE ENGINE. And of course avoid riding at a constant speed for a long period of time, whatever that means.
Well, I did these things. Mostly been cruising down Pacific Coast Highway between Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach, and through Trabuco Canyon. Lots of open road, but also varied driving conditions such that you use all the gears at different speeds. Don't think that I ever lugged the engine and the sweet spot seems to be between maybe 2,600-3,100 RPMs or so. So basically the manual seems to say that break-in is simply running the engine responsibly after the first 50 miles.
Have to say the 103 engine on the Fatboy is very sweet. Lots of guts when you want, and just loafs along on the Freeway no matter what speed you need or want.
Great to have the bike officially "broken in"!

I knew That shot was Huntington beach before I looked up your location :-)
I lived there for a few years, and visit often to Surf and go to Dog Beach.
I love riding the CA coast, the weather is nearly always a perfect temperature.
Enjoy that bike!
Steve
