Default Strange thing on my Primary

So I'm going to adjust the clutch on my 2003 100th Anniversary Softail Heritage Classic. I pull the derby cover off and I see this thing. I've never seen one of these before and it's in the way and I can't access the nut to loosen it. Anyone know what this is and if I need it. It doesn't appear to do anything really. Those little cylinders are connected to some rockers that make them move up and down. It's almost as if they are counter weights of some sort.

Thanks for your help.

it's a lockup pressure plate. weights increase clutch plate pressure with RPM to ensure your clutch doesn't slip, also reduces lever effort. you can't get the 11/16" socket on the nut?

looks like this is the one you have there https://aimcorp.myshopify.com/collec...-clutch-series

I would think that the presence of that would mean that you have some performance motor work done as well

Not necessarily, I installed the HD Variable clutch adaptor when I installed the SE HD clutch plate. It makes the lever easier to pull and gives a more positive engagement with the centripetal force of the weights and where it contacts the pressure plate. Closer to the middle of the pressure plate fingers.
I use a spark plug socket that I had that fit the nut. A wrench on the end of the socket because it has a hexagonal top with the allen key going through the middle. I also found a socket set that is used for long bolts that allows the bolt to extend out the middle of the socket. This works quite well too.

Default Mystery solved

Thanks guys!! Appreciate the input. I bought the bike in December of 2014, I'm the second owner and this is the first time I've pulled the derby cover off. I'm learning more and more about the bike and yes, apparently the previous owner did do some performance improvements (?). The clutch is easy to pull in but I do need to adjust it a tad and I want to be sure it's not too tight (which I suspect it is). I'll try the long socket and wrench thing and see if that does the trick.

Again, thanks for all your help.

You can try using a 18mm Spark Plug socket with a ring spanner to adjust the lock nut.

11/16 deep socket + vice grips.
