Default 96" or 103"???

Plan on getting motor work done soon (cams/headwork). On the fence about going from a 96" to a 103". Not looking to win any races or anything just wanna know if the extra money would be worth it as far as HP/TQ. I already scrolled through the "Softail Dyno" thread and couldn't find what I was looking for. Thanks

Damn your numbers are sick! Dude that is doing my work is potentially sending my stock cylinders out to get bored to 103". Pretty sure 103 is the highest I wanna go.

107 is the max possible without case work. My train went 96 to 107, same expense as 103 but little more power, still reliable.

Why not pick cams that fit around your riding style? Have the heads ported to the cam specs and make sure you get an exhaust that matches both the cams & heads.

I would agree with this. If you're not looking to win any races, but want a little bit more get-up-and-go, a set of cams would do you nicely, and save you a bit of coin.

I put a 107" in my FatBoy Lo, ported heads, cams, etc.. Would not hesitate to do it again in a heartbeat. Engine's as reliable as its ever been. I went with FuelMoto's kit.

If you know how to turn a wrench, you can actually build it yourself. It's a weekend job to do.

So...up to you

I got a 103B Motor 2012. Level One injection w/ level 2 air breather. V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 down draft headers. Dynoed tuned for this elevation. I haven't ridden in a few decades and I am the second owner. Low low miles delivered as is w/ extras. This thang goes like a scalded rat feels like it wants to tear the asphalt. If I still lived in Fresno on a hot day it probably would. Metzler bigger tire in back etc. You can be in 4th going pretty good and nail it and it flat gets up and pulls like a bitch and the speedo is going clockwise at a very fast rate. Plenty for me. Totally agree with what's been said.....

Thanks for the replies. I'm definitely doing the cams/headwork. Just wasn't sure if going to a 103" would really give me that much more over the 96". Plan on getting it tuned and all that good stuff too.

Roughly speaking, you'll gain about 1 horsepower for each cubic inch of displacement increase. I don't know how much you'll be paying for your displacement increase. What is a seven horsepower increase worth to you?.

Not sure why you keep mentioning 103? 107 is same price and 11 more cubes which translates to 11 or more ft lbs and hp. Worth the money if doing heads. If sticking with 96ci then I would just do an appropriate cam.

But why listen to any of us? Just call Scott at Hillside he'll set you up right the first time, with no regrets.
