18L-BS Battery in a Heritage instead of 20L-BS??
Time for me to purchase a battery soon. I was wandering if anyone has ever tried to put an 18L-BS battery in their Heritage or other softail. They are only a quarter of an inch taller and about 1 1/8 wider then the 20L_BS.
I'm not looking at it right now but I'm pretty sure the extra length would work if the 1/4" of extra heigth could be tolerated. The width is the same on both.
If it would, a person would have a little extra capacity for those grewling hot restarts wouldn't they? The spec differences I see from the Autozone website are 17.5 ah versus 20 ah, 1.8 amp versus 2 amp and amp hour: 17.5 versus 20. Would these specs make any difference as far as overload on our charging system? CCA goes up from 310 to 340.
I know we don't have tractors or trucks but I have put a larger group 65 battery on my pickup truck and tractor where a smaller group 78 was with good results.

Thanks Guy's! My bad. I took out the sort of small battery out of my heritage. The one that was in their was not the stock size but a BikeMaster Platnum II MS12-14-BS which is a good bit smaller battery then stock.
I guess the previous owner just picked up something to get by with for a while. It never failed to start my ride but it did turn over slow and especially when hot sometimes.
I picked up a new ETX20L which was the direct AGM replacement for the heritage with 310 CCA at Autozone. She fires up real nicely now. I did have the BikeMaster battery checked and it did check good. So, I guess I've got an extra one to sell if I were to find a buyer. Thanks Again.
