Default Wiring up a sidemount tail light.

Whats up guys. Well, I finally finished fabrication on my new rear fender and dropped it off for paint today. I figured I'd start getting the wiring run for the side mount tail and plate. The wiring for 2 flashers and a tail light is overcomplicated to say the least. I didn't realize that all of the wiring plugs into the hub behind the tail light and is distributed from there. I planned on just cutting the entire harness at the plug under the seat and rewiring and rerouting everything from there. My problem is that the wiring isn't even color coded. There is one blue coming down the harness, but splits into 2 different shades of blue after the hub. There is no purple in the main harness, yet some how there are two purple after the hub. I'm just a little confused as to which wire does what after it plugs into that hub, and I can't seem to find an accurate wiring diagram for my 01 FXSTBI. Anybody wire a side mount recently and have any useful tips for me? Or possibly an accurate diagram for the rear harness? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Default Wiring up a sidemount tail light.

Best bet is to use a DDM and test the wires, quicker and easier than it sounds.

Thanks for the help. After pulling back electrical tape and opening up the insulation for the harness, I found the hack job that the previous owner did trying to install aftermarket turn signals and tail light. I'm going to cut the harness in half and start from scratch now that I have color coded wires. Thanks again.

Been there a few times, its worth getting some color corresponding wire and shrink tube to get that length back before you start cutting back into it. Nothing worse that having an inch of wire to work with for future work lol

The service manual will have wiring diagrams and the color codes for all the wires.
