Several years ago, when I was eating lunch, at the Golden Nugget, in Laughlin. The big temperature display sign across the river got to 130 degrees. Can you imagine how hot your bike would run then?

There are other Air Cooled bikes that do not run that Hot. Harley is just a bit behind the times from an engineering standpoint. It is a shame that we have to modify our bikes just to be able to ride them. Maybe the boys up north should spend some time in the south.

What about the Harley "Parade Map" for 2007 bikes? Its supposed to shut down the back cylinder when idling in traffic? Thats what I read... Anybody know if the parade map works and keeps the bike running cooler in traffic??

 

I got up to 330 on Main Street in Daytona this year going over the bridge and my scoot would hardly run plus the clutch wasn't doing such a great job either. Finally got to moving and everything leveled out and started working perfectly but I was more than a little nervous a couple of times. Definitely changed the oil as soon as I could. Have not noticed any performance problems.

 

I lived just south of Buffalo N.Y. and the riding season was about 6 months. I live in the South now and ride year round. At 15,000 miles a year I need a ride that is reliable on hot and cold days. My wife rides a 07 FLSTC and I ride a Honda VTX 1800R. Maybe it is just the 07 models, but her bike runs hotter than any of theolder Harleys, and has had more problems than any other bike we have had. On cooler days it is a nice ride, but on a warm day in the south it is a COOKER.

 

I would never let the oil temp get up near 300 degrees. I was installing a Thunder-Max tuner on my '07' Heritage, and one step in the manual requires you to idle the engine until the head temperature reaches 289 degrees. This takes maybe 10 minutes sitting there at idle to reach that temp. They warn you not to let the head temp reach much above 325 degrees, or engine damage may result. Having the engine sit there at idle for about 15 minutes gets it near that temp! I'd pull off the road next time and let her cool down. Definately change the oil.

Yeah well..........one year I had a fresh set of pistons inmy race bikeand went to Daytona with some noobs from work.
We rode from Gainesville to Daytona (was racing the AHDRA drags)

Thye HAD to go down Main street, I could just hear those poor slugs losing it as the temp went to 320.

When I got home I tore it down again and wound up replacing the pistons again (good thing I'm connected piston wise) they were a bit out of spec.

My racemomo is not even close to stock in compression and camming.

IF you begin to hear a knock you may want to check compression wet/dry.

Def lose the oil and filter.
