I need to go into the cam chest of my Heritage in the near future. I will be looking at it closely, with your pic in hand....

This may make it a little clearer but the case on the left in my attachment always has oil to the level of that lip cavity you see or the right bottom of the case. The pickup from the pump in the cam galley sucks off at the bottom of that cavity inside that narrow area. The oil on the back side in the cam galley is level with the large roller bearing. This by the way is Soft02's case.

Oil.............is oil.... if your using non syn, just change it more often.
Use whatever makes you comfortable.

Now lets see how many people will be outraged by my comments....LOL

Wait for it.........
