Sure, we take risks by riding motorcycles in the first place, but it seems to be a lot harder on survivors when their loved one was unwilling to take some simple steps to mitigate these risks. It's the same type of thing that happens when someone dies or gets seriously hurt in a car accident, and the family and friends find out that they weren't wearing a seat belt, or were texting while driving. It's kind of like they've been handed a big "I didn't give a chit about you".
