Do you have some sort of bag stiffeners in?
Nope..just when you get all the chrome studs off..clean up the leather real good, very easy to do with studs out of the way. I have also found out if you slightly bend the tabs on the new studs in towards one another they pop right in and crimp very tight.

I used to like studs and skulls too, but pretty much grew out of them.
The stud thing was retro 50's. The skull thing was an early 00's thing.
The Heritage used to be one of the hottest selling bikes for the moco.
Now I believe it is the Street Glide.
Here is my 99 evo softail fxstc w/a fatboy front fender and 16 inch wheel and studded bags.

Back to the OP's original question, the Heritage is indeed a great bike. I rented one for a day of riding in the mountains when I was in Albuquerque, and after 300 miles the wife was definitely sold. I'm sticking with my Slim but her experience with the Heritage greatly influenced the purchase of a new seat.

Same here. Bought my first Heritage over this past weekend. Could not be happier with it.
