i have a 2001 fxsti with 15000 miles on it.went out for aride sunday ran great raced a road king up the highway ran great. monday took the bike to work got half way there and the speedo quit and turn signals wont self cancel ,and idles way to low at a stop,but no check engine light ever came on.i looked up how to pull codes from tssm and had none there. then i pulled codes using check engine light flashes and came up with code 34.no idea what 34 might be almost positive its a historic code but if some one knows exactly what it is i'd be greatful.i pulled the vss cleaned it off but no differance the speedo does do the self diag sweep when ignition is turned on and everything else works fine.i looked at the list of codes on this forum but cant figure out which 34 is the right 34 for my code. wife wants me to trade it for a yamaha but i told her shed go first!someone please help me thank you for looking

 

My 02' Night train did the exact same thing.I have read that sometimes if the sensor has been that way for a while it becomes no good. I hear you can get one from your local H-D stealer ($50).
I have the service manual and I can't find anything about the codes!? Wish I could tell you what the the code is. I cleaned my sensor and it didn't work so I'm getting a new one. If you do a search on this I think I read somewhere about resertting the speedo by pushing a button on the bottom side of tank panel. But you'd better check on that. Good luck. Did you try the speedo self test? Hold the trip meter re-set switch in turn ign ON let go button . SPeedo should go through self test and it should say diag in the odometer. That will at least tell youif speedo is ok.
Not sure about the code. Could not find anything like it in my manual.

 

I am fighting the same thing. Thusfar, I have added a powercommander and had a full diagnostics to no avail. Let me know what you find.

 

Since the turn signals count pulses from the speed sensor to cancel, the problem is very likely to be the sensor or the wires to it.

 

Mine tried that once. She hasn't mentioned it again since I threatend to trade her for a gisha.

 

I rode with a buddy this weekend who has an 06 Road King FI. He was experincing the same problems listed here. Dies at stops, no speedo, turn signals won't cancel. He has it at the dealer currently but I don't know what the status is. I will have to point him to this thread.

 

If you could please keep me posted on what your buddy finds at the dealer I would much appreciate it.

 

good news replaced vss (vehicle speed sensor) and everything is back to normal bike runs great with everything working
