Default Windshield or Fairing

I have a 2011 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic with the stock windshield. I'm planning some long trips this spring and summer and considering buying a larger windshield or fairing. Any comments or suggestions?

windshield for sure, the bike is not made for a fairing not to say the don't make aftermarket ones. If you want a fairing trade it in for a SG or dresser.

I've got two shields; the stock one and a 20" Klock Werks Billboard Flare.
I run the stock shield around town but on any longer rides (2 hour + rides) I put the Klock Werks on.
I have hardware on both so the swap only takes a minute or so.

The bigger Klock Werks is not only taller but wider and really makes a difference.

I've thought about a fairing but I decided if I wanted a touring bike I should just go buy one and not spend the money trying to make my softail look and ride like a touring ride.

I really like the look of the Memphis Shades Batwing (see link) on the Fatboys. Gives a bit more coverage without spending a ton on full fairing. I guess it all depends wether you like the looks or if you want a sound system or what-not. If i want to listen to music... I use my ipod and some head-phones. I just can't see your music sounding good blaring full throttle on speakers doing 60 mph down the freeway.

This. Plus windshields come in quick detach options that you can take off for around town (or swap between large and small as others have suggested)

I came off an 07 Heritage onto an Ultra. First off I must say the Heritage is definately a worthy touring machine. Second, the fairing isn't all it's cracked up to be. With a good recurve shield to throw the wind over your head and fork fangs you will be very comfortable. I spent many 10 hour days with that set up with little fatigue. Third your ride is a very classic style and may not be a good look for your bike, the Haritage bars may be over the fairing ( I'm not 100% ). So just my opinion a shield from Long Ride Shields, Fangs, and a back rest you will have a very comfortable distance bike. DAMN I MISS THAT BIKE.
