Cant say much about a fairing, but this is my first windshield in 40+ years of riding and I dont think I will ever take it off.

I had a windshield and wanted some tunes with better wind protection so I bought a Reckless fairing. I am not a bar hopper. I mainly ride lonely back country highways and love having the tunes on my ride instead of messing with ear buds.

I think a fairing looks fine on a Softail. I love my Softail and like the ride it gives me. I can spend all day in the saddle and not get fatigued as long as I take a few breaks. Anyone who says you can't tour on a softy is either biased or has never tried.

12,000 miles in 2 years riding weekends only.

Agreed. I have 2 windshields, both are light tint LRS Shields, a 16" for solo and a 20" for when the wife is on to help throw the wind over her. A windshield on a Heritage is what makes it look Classic. If I would have wanted a fairing I would have bought a Touring bike, which eventually would like to have a Touring also just for the long rides, but adding a fairing to a Heritage just takes away from the look IMO but to each their own.

A fairing on a softail bagger?

Looks good to me. The only problem is the fork mounted fairing will make slow speed maneuvering more difficult because of the added weight on the handlebars and this is also true with the fork mounted fairings on the tourers. That's why some choose the Road Glide over the street glide.

I say Fairing... I started with the windshield and did the fairing last year. Wish I had done it earlier!
