Cool Knocking noise

I have a 2010 softail deluxe. It has the "revolution" 107 big bore kit with s&s 585 easy cam. "Larry Hardy" performance heads. Screaming eagle adjustable push rods. I have this knocking noise that happens only when the bike is at operating temperature and I stop for gas or cigs. Then I start the bike n bam I get this knocking noise for the 1st 3 to 4 revolutions of the motor. It's driving me nuts. I checked push rods cause it's exactly what it sounds like. But their right. I work on my own bike. plus I work on Harley's for a living. I've never come across this. Now I do ride my bike hard. But a good hard. Any help would be much appreciated. 109 hp at last dyno. "Berry" the dyno man is the best dyno man I've found. He has a lot of patience when explaining what exactly how and what he's doing. He's not cheap and will have your bike over night. But it's because he dyno's each cylinder at a time. My bike runs like a raped ape. Have not been beat yet. And I will race anything. "My little sleeper" 600 - 750 "eater" ha!!! And this is my 4th set of floor boards. They just melt away in the canyons!!!

Plus one on check the comp.

Be careful using up those floorboards. Sooner or later, the road wins. Slept in a cornfield once myself.

Sounds more like it is oil related and that you have a lifter bleeding down too quick.

If it was lifter bleed down I'd expect to see it on the PR adjust cold - logic being that if its bled down hot it's not going to get better after setting. I'd expect noise on cold starts if that were the case. On the other hand I don't know what happens when one of these "Easy Start" lifters fails...

You might try killing one cylinder prior to starting to see if it's isolated to one cylinder and going from there.

Good luck with this.

I agree with the compensator as the culprit.
