Fuel Tank Custom Paint- QUESTIONS
I am looking at getting a custom paint job on a tank; I will be purchasing a separate tank, will be a 3 color scheme (black tank with an off-white/eggshell center lined in red). As always before diving in (some call it homework, I call it research hehe) with both feet, I have questions...
1)- Cost; ball park, what does something like this cost to have done...on average?
2)- Turn around time- again, just an average so I know what to expect.
3)- What all do I give the painter? Just the tank? Tank and the parts?
Just soliciting some personal experience here from those who have had it done, I am fully aware that YMMV.

Turn around time has huge variations, depending on who you use, how busy they are, etc. Also, some of the folks that have the worst reputation for delivering when they say are painters...not all, but many.
Give the painter what you want painted/what he asks for.
I have used Time Warp Paint with excellent results. He was on time, excellent work, and did all five tins pictured below for $1000.

Yeah, always better to avoid shipping if you can get a good job done locally in a timely manner.

Mine cost $850 Australian dollars, so approx $660 USD.
Took 3 weeks to paint, it's quite an intricate job as you can see.
I gave him a standard gloss black 48 tank, and received it back as is shining like a diamond. I think it was money well worth it.
About the trickiest/nerveracking thing to do was screwing in the fuel pump and placing it on the bike, but with a spare set of hands from my father it took 15 mins to swap over.

Have to give a shout out to Pat Paldino, Kustom Flames. He did my tank, dash, fenders, and oil tank for under $2500 shipped to my door. We exchanged no less than 100 emails back and forth discussing the project. All of my emails were answered within hours. There was a TON of bodywork to do. Turn around was +/- 2 months, but it was during Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years. Wouldn't hesitate to use him again.
