Default Softail Deluxe Exhaust

Hi All,
I am new to the forum and just bought a new Deluxe. I want to upgrade my exhaust with either slip-ons or a full exhaust. I'm not really looking for more power just louder pipes. My question is do I need to add a chip and dyno my bike or can I get away without doing that.
And if I am just looking for louder pipes will slip-ons do the trick?

lastly what pipes do you guys recommend?

thanks in advance for your help

Most likely you will need to re-tune the bike for the pipes you are looking for. Stock pipes are more restrictive than after market pipes, which will change your air/fuel ratio. That being said....I have these up for sale

Slip ons (Rush sound excellent) only and your good to go. If you eventually change the air intake you will need a tune.

If you are looking for loud, Vance&Hines are the way to go! You won't need a chip or a tuner if the exhaust is the ONLY modification you are making. However, something like the Power Vision would help your bike to run better as they come lean from the factory. Congratulations on the new bike, hope you get the sound you are looking for

If your just looking to louden your pipes why not just de-baffle your stock pipes. Just did that on my deluxe while I wait for my samsons to come in....

Default Vance and Hines Longshots

First mod I did to the bike, they sound great....not obnoxious, sound loud and tuned. I did not have to install a chip or tuner. But I did have to have the bike tuned for the pipes. These are Vance and Hines Longshots, full exhaust not-slip ons. You should be able to go on youtube to get an idea of how they sound. Good luck

I agree with Sprawl. I love my long shots. When I bought the bike it had them on and I was going to buy fishtails but I grew to love theses a lil more. Sprawl that's a sweet looking ride you have there.

Default tuning

I have a '11 Deluxe and put on Arlen Ness Big Sucker high flow breather and Vance and Hines Big Shots Black. I am not a tech but all advice I got was that whenever you do some thing to change the air/fuel ratio, you have to account for that in some way. I opted for the Vance and Hines FP3 Fuelpak that operates via a smartphone. Rode it about 10,000 km w/o issue. Touch wood. The Big Shots are LOUD. I regularly set off car alarms with my Heritage equipped with the same. I opted for the quiet baffle this time. I like the volume but they are still loud. Good luck and ride safe.
