removing the tail light on a 1996 softail custom
OK guys, I'm having trouble removing my tail light and license plate bracket on my 96 softail custom, with bobtail fender. The tail light keeps coming losses, so I'm going to remove the speed nuts and studs, and replace then with real bolts and nuts lock tight. Any tips for removing the tail light assembly would be greatly appreciated!!!

I got it figured out, so I'm going to pass on the fix to help the next guy.
My tail light kept coming losses , I replaced it and the new one came loose too after a few thousand miles. Lift the bike and get the back tire off the ground, thence
I removed the four bolts from the side of the fender struts, and the seat screw(my bike has a luggage rack)
The license plate bracket and tail light just pull straight out. I cut the two mounting studs off the light and used a 1/4 drill bit to drill all the way through the light assembly, cleaned the holes up with a file, put in two bolts with some liquid gasket around the heads for water proofing, a washer , blue lock tight and a lock bolt.
That solved my problem and all for $6.00
