As the title says... I have a oil leak behind the rear cylinder of my 2007 night Train. I am probably beating a dead horse and I apologize but I have searched for about 4 hours now and have found nothing. I bought the bike used yesterday. I took all the proper precautions and did a thorough inspection. After a twenty minute test ride a small spot was noticeable but it didn't appear to be anything alarming. After a day of riding it is much more obvious that there is a leak. I am lookin for some diagnostic advice, and a judgement call as to whether or not the leak is detrimental to operation, or if I can put it off until I feel like doing some internal mods. I can't find a way to keep the pics under the size limit

 

07's had bad case machining and some leaked at the pry point between the cases.

Deal with it till you want to pull your motor and have the cases split and full re build. No recall.

 

That definitely looks to be where the leak is coming from. I dont know what the next step is from here. There doesnt appear to be any recall on the bad machining. The previous owner said today that he never noticed it but it appears that he didnt ride the bike much. I am praying for a cheap fix and hoping I didnt get suckered.

 

Closest I got to sealing it was using a Dremel to open up the hole and clean it really well with starting fluid and blow the hole out with air and fill with Permatex ultra gray gasket maker. Eventually I wore out my motor and had to split the cases to re build it. I block sanded it and hasn't leaked since. Sorry for the bad news. It was a minor nuisance.

 

As long as this is more of an OCD thing rather than something that is damaging the bike I will be fine with it. I plan on making this bike last as long as possible straighten out the kinks sooner than later.

Thank you for the bad/good news. I will take that as a character plus. I cant blame the last guy for not informing me because he didnt seem as ****-retentive as I am. I doubt he even noticed. Other than the leak, this bike is as smooth as silk. I love everything about it. I really appreciate the quick response. I can already tell this forum is full of good people.
