Night Train - Apes or Drag bars?

I'm 5' 11" and my train came with the street slammers. As you said, the pull back is too much. Gave me cramping in my shoulders and back. Put on 14" Wild1 Outlawz with 1.5" risers. Much better ride. With the front lowered my hands sit right at shoulder height. The only thing is, my arms do get tired of riding long distances or in high winds due to the wind pounding your chest.
Don't mind the dorky smile. Just showing my hands in relation to my shoulders.

The other question is does the wrist angle work well at shoulder height? That's my bike below...

Harleyanarchy, I'm pretty sure that I went +4" on everything but I can't say for sure. I was asked before and I don't have the info. It's not on my receipt from Magnum Shielding who made the cables and brake line and I don't have the packaging or emails anymore. I left my stock cables attached to the bike and mocked up the new bars, then I just eyeballed the routing and measured the difference.
I used Namz wiring extensions and did the same thing to measure how long I would need them.
As for wrist angle, I think it's fine, not uncomfortable for me at all.

I went 14" and I'm 5'11. I have the bars pushed forward and because the grips go straight out flat opposed to angled down, I find the grips are a few inches above shoulder height but still comfortable.
I'm going a much shorter ape hanger with the new springer front end coming, more so for legal reasons. I'd like to go low drag bars with the new build coming but that's more bend in my back, I don't think I'd last long

Wow... blacked out train Ink83! I will also push mine forward a bit as well like you and Cygnusx51. I have longer arms so I'll be able to get away with the distance and I like the look.
Cygnusx51... I'll order up the bars then use the old cables and wiring to calculate my new lengths as well... no screw up then, plus I have all winter to do it. Now to find a site or shop with a good price and ships to Canada without claiming my left nut in the shipping price
