Hard to answer this without more particulars, like type of injury, etc. It may even be that a rider backrest could be the answer.

Mustang, Wide Touring, with backrest and highway pegs. Highway pegs (stretching out) will relieve some stress on your back.

I agree that mustang seat is a great option with rider backrest. It came down to the mustang and the ultimate and I plan to go with the ultimate because I've read such great reviews on it. I also suffer from back problems so I always get seats with a backrest.

Is there any way around not having to get a crash bar for highway pegs?

I shattered L-3 yrs ago.. I usually ride with the wife on the rear.. but for solo I made my rear (stock) pillion- after buying the wife the tourning seat -- into a 7 in high rear fender/bib/backrest for me when I ride alone.

It has made BIG difference on my ""how long I can ride,, without pain.... see my albums for pics...

You have to make it as it can't be bought....

ALSO, just 2 yrs ago I found out the the HD FOOT pegs are Freaking GREAT to relieve pressure on my Knee's and Hip... MAJOR,,, Major difference on those 7-10 hrs long daily rides.... and NO you need to spend some $$$ to get the engine guard first....

Yeah his back determines how long he rides. That stock seat is killing him is there a seat you can suggest ?
