Upgrade the cam at the very least. My last bike was a 96ci with stage 1 and cams and I left stock 103ci in the dust. Another thing I did was add a SE heavy clutch plate.
The new bike is a stock 103ci and I will be doing stage 1 over winter and when I decide on a cam, it will be done in the spring.

Do what your piggy bank tells you to do...

I highly recommend going with 103" and use the Cometic Head Gaskets to raise the Compression Ratio a bit. When you get a chance replace the cams as well. I have been extremely pleased with the results on my 2010 Softail both in terms of power, flexibility and dependability. No problems in over 20,000 miles.

I don't think you'll notice a huge difference going from 96" to 103", while leaving everything else the same. But if you bump it to 103" and change the cams at the same time, you'll have a whole new bike. Just make sure you get the bike tuned properly.

You would enjoy that S&S 106". I had it on my last bike. Went from a 103" to the S&S 106" with head work, cams, D&D exhaust, TTS MasterTune, and good dyno tune. Bike put out 130 tq and 115 hp.

Now I'm back on a 103" with just a stage 1, and I'm missing the torque I had before. I don't think I'll bump up the cubic inches this time, but I'll be throwing a different set of cams in this bike to wake up the 103".

I opted for the stage 2 103 with cams. (HD kit)

They wont put anything other than the 255 cams in the motor due to CA law and considering I need this done by HD to keep my motor covered by the extended service contract I decided that it will be fine.

I do have a question though; HD told me that I should swap out my clutch plates for their screaming eagles plates. They told me I don't have to do this but they think it would be a good idea.

Should I?

All in all I am paying for the 103 stage 2 w/ cams and 2 hours of labor as the rest of the labor is covered by my ESC.

Cool! Congrats!

I don't think you really need to worry about the clutch plates. Pretty sure I was running stock plates in my bike, but I did upgrade the spring.

You'll feel like you're riding a different bike after you get it back.
