I experienced the same thing (hitting left signal instead of the horn) so I vowed to practice both the horn and the high-beam flash switches when I'm out riding with no-one nearby. Make it into a reflex action that doesn't require higher-level thinking.
I hate to say it, but the metric bikes do it way better than Harley in this area. One switch on the left hand grip for the turn signals. Move it left, move it right with your left thumb. No taking you hand off the throttle.... Makes WAY more sense than the way Harley does it.

if i remember BMW also does the split signals. but yeah it was much easier especially since that was the standard for so long that we all probably learned on that same setup..
Hey JD, don't feel bad,... shortly after I got my Breakout I was riding at night and hit the shutoff instead of the right directional - that's sure a WTF! moment - especially when you can't see what you just did.
Let me assure you...you're not the only one with this specific WTF experience
