That COULD potentially be the cause of the leaks.

I have only ever seen a mechanic use a torque wrench on a master cylinder lid bolt ONCE - that was when the owner at Shamrock Cycles inspected my rear master cylinder for fluid level when I was experiencing rear brake drag due to improper installation of the brake pad spring plate by an HD dealership mechanic. I think most mechanics figure they have sufficient "feel". Unfortunately, some don't have that feel!

OR, it COULD be a bad batch of seals from HD, or a bad batch of lids.

I don't think we really know for sure.

I know when I took my bike in and showed them, They just said real quick that they have had a few like that we will just put a new seal and lid on it and you should be good to go. So far over the last 1500 miles its been leak proof.

Yeah. It could certainly be bad seals. But my bet is that most techs and owners over tighten them. If they are over tightened there is a real good chance they will leak. Just something to keep in mind.

Most of the time the leaks on master cylinder seals are due to improper installation; the seal was installed wet with fluid on the edges. Once these seals are wet with fluid on the sealing surface itself they will leak.

I TOTALLY agree here I had same problem and did same, took apart cleaned and did same tightening back up no leaks sense. I will also say I noticed a vent in the seal also. Dont over tighten or you will crush the vent along with the seal.
