Default Set/Resume Switch

Can the Cruise Set/Resume switch be ordered as a separate part? I am having problems on my 08 where the cruise drops off. The light stays green, so I am thinking the ECU is in decel mode. Eventually I will get an error code P0577.

P0057 is "Cruise Control Inoperative." There is a diagnostic protocol for your problem in the 2008 HD Electrical Diagnostic Manual, page 4-143. Stop by your local HD store Service Dept. and ask to take a look at their copy. It may very well be the set/resume switch. Yes, HD sells the switch, though I don't have a p/n for it.

p/n from 2007 part book is 77101-98. It looks like all years are the same.

It looks like this part has been superseded by part number 71788-08 for the '08 models. Sorry for the wrong numbers in my first post.

I had to take mine in yesterday for the cruise shutting off. Picking it up a few minutes here. Shop said they just needed to make an adjustment or something.

Unfortnately I am out of warranty. So...... It will be me myself and I doing the troubleshooting. I am afraid this is going to turn out to be an ECM issue on mine. Here is what I know and where I am going with my troubleshooting.

1. When I am having trouble, I believe the ECM has the cruise still active but is in Decel as though I am holding the switch to SET/COAST. The Cruise light stays "Green"

2. If I hit brakes, pull clutch or roll throttle fwd. The Cruise light goes "Red."

3. I can also get the light to change to "Red" by pushing the switch left.
(According to the Electrical Manual, the cruise will disengage if both the SET/COAST and the RESUME/ACCELERATE switches are press at the same time.) ****That would be kind of hard to do**** But, in my mind explains why pushing the switch to the RESUME gets the cruise to disengage.

4. I ran through the CRUISE INOPERATIVE DIAGNOSTICS. Everything checks out on that. Light goes Green/Red as required for all functions.

5. According to the manual the SET/RESUME switch should show continuity through the O/W wire tied to the Right Turn switch and the Stop Lamp switch on pin 1 of the connector from the right hand switch housing. I found that to not be the case the continuity is through the Run/Stop switch.

5. I removed the ECM and Ohmed out pins 22 and 34. Each shows continuity to Pin 72 as expected when the Set/Resume switch is operated.

At this point, I don't see it being the Set/Resume switch. I have zip tied my Fluke meter to the Zumo mount and tapped the SET/COAST wire and garage tested that I get 12V when I push the switch to set.
And falls back to 2 volts when I let go. (Not sure whether the 2 volts means anything or not)

Now it's raining!!!! no road test.

I had a similar problem on my 08 ulta after installing grips. I ended up reinstalling the throttle grip twice and this cleared it. Might not be that easy but it worked for me when the cruise started cutting out. I think I was getting the same code but can't be sure.

I just looked in my 2009 Touring Model Parts Catalog on page 87. The part number for the Switch Assembly, cruise control, set/resume is still 77101-98. 71788-08 is not even in the 2009 Part Catalog.

I found the 71788-08 number when I did a search for the price on the 77101-98. The price was wide ranging from $31 to $76!!
