Help on a 2018 or newer service manual question.
Need some help on a 2018 or newer service manual question.
In the transmission, first gear has a thin gear that is spring load to eliminate first gear rattle.
My question is when you drop it in to the mating gear mesh, how far do you index it against spring pressure do you take it .
Just sitting, the gear tooth of the thin gear sits in the the space between the actual first gear.
Do you pull in around to the first alignment or take it to the next tooth.
It appears to have two options.
......
.....
Probably similar to this. Not sure however is it tension or compression type spring.

I have to say I'm rather baffled by that very thin gear. It's not shown or described in my service manual. I do not see it in the Harley parts fiche online. In your picture, it doesn't seem to have the same tooth count as the gear it's abutting.
You might do better asking this question over in the transmission forum instead of here.

It basically gives the straight cut gears no backlash clearance.
