Hey All, I'm cleaning up the rear sprocket...chrome flaking off. Going to sand it just spray chrome paint. When I removed it I noticed it was pretty pristine on the inside. Would it be possible to install it backwards. Outside pitted chrome to the inside. Or is there some kind of mating between chain and sprocket. Bike has 17000 MLS.
i would not recommend that
look closely at the pulley profile, one side is a taper and the other side is a staked plate. if you run against the staked plate and it fails, the belt can do some pretty dangerous stuff.
you can fine media blast the pulley and use some krylon fusion paint.
must be a conversion
a sprocket can be reversed if it is not stepped to fit one way, the only concern is if the teeth have a curvature to them. if they are consistent and not needle sharp probably will be alright.
