Default seat/tank question

I have been looking at some used seats. Some mention they are for a 3 gallon tank (what I have). Are the seats that specific?

Thanks

Most of the seats will fit with a 3.3 gallon tank, the problem is with a 4.5 gallon tank due to the extra length of these large tanks, most of the seats that are intended for a smaller tank won't fit it.

As you have a 2003 XLH 1200, a seat from a rubber mounted Sportster won't fit without being modified, stick to a seat from a late model rigid mounted Sportster.

I installed a CC Rider seat on my 2011 XL883N, it is black with orange stitching and piping, the front doesn't go anywhere near the rear of the 3.3 gallon tank.

On my 2003 with 3.3 gallon tank and mustand solo seat, the seat is shoehorned on there and I use helicopter tape to protect the tank where they meet but it makes lining up the rear mounting hole a little tough.

Not to highjack this thread, but; Rob Roy, is there a build thread for your bike? Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Thank you for your question,

Sorry there is no build thread for my Iron 883, I have customised it gradually over the years since I bought it new in 2011.

The Iron is a running show piece for the black stainless hardware that I sell on eBay.

I've also used it as a test mule to make sure that the hardware fits correctly, if it fits my machine, it will fit my customers machines.

I will be selling the Iron 883 soon to a friend, I'm now retired and I can't afford to keep three motorcycles on the road at one time.
