water storage in saddlebag

water storage in saddlebag
I ride in the arizona desert so carrying water is essential. I carry a 64 oz insulated water bottle in my saddle bag. I tighten the lid down but the cap unscrews because of vibration and I end up losing my water. I ride a road king and do not like the look of saddlebag guard water bottles. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can carry water in my saddlebag without it leaking?

The wife and I ride cross country quite often, as well as play in the AZ, UT, NV, and CA deserts. We take this guy with us on EVERY trip. It will hold 4 water bottles plus a few snacks for the day. If we finish off the 4 bottles we have, we get some more at the gas station when topping off the tank. It fits perfectly in our SGS saddle bags! While on the road, if the little hotel refrigerator doesn't have a freezer, the front desk will freeze it for us to use for the next day. Allows us to drink cold water all day, everyday.

I use a Harley cooler. I had one of the cheaper ones from Amazon but the HD brand is way better. I fill it with ice and water bottles, never leaks.

Welcome from NC.
I use the skinny Hydroflask bottle on my King. It fits nicely where the H-D bottle goes. It keeps the H2O cold all day with some ice. If you want to carry a bigger jug, they make a 64 ounce here. I use it sometimes and never leaked on me. They also have a cap with flex straw and they claim it's leak proof, but I've never tried it.
Try keeping a towel in the bottom of the bags to keep things from rattling.

Buy a new water bottle ...
I too carry extra h2o , but do not live in the desert,so I wrap or pack loose clothing such as a hoodie or other garments on the bottom of the bag and around my water bottles.
I even carry/wear a small camel back bag and fill up withe bottles or at a fuel/rest stop.
and I carry one of those saddle guard pouches you do not like the looks of, then again I now ride a Road-Glide.
