You can hear it better with real speakers, but can anyone make out the off-beat, slightly erratic ticking (clacking?) from the rear of the engine. It comes with an off-beat shake to match.
Is this normal? So far random people have said it sounds normal, but that is not in person.

Left NC 4 weeks ago with a dealer oil change at 5200 miles. I'm in CA now with 8800 miles. FYI.

There's no doubt they seem to clatter quite a bit more than previous smaller cube versions, the 121 is real clattery.

 

Yep, quiet a bit of valve train noise.

 

Sounds like valve train clickity clack to me...
What oil is in the engine?

 

I have exactly the same ticking and it bothers me a bit (as in, I wish it didn't). It started around 2-300 miles. At the 1k service I switched from whatever HD fills them with to Amsoil 20W-50 engine oil and Amsoil's dedicated Primary and Transmission lubes. It quieted up for a hundred miles or so, but came back same as before.

 

Riders used to complain about the old TC rocker noise and here we are with new noise...

 

Pulled in the garage today. Thought I'd record my 117 so you could compare it with yours. Engine was hot, just off the highway. H-D 360 20W50 oil -- Lots of clatter with these Gen II engines
