Default Info on speedo please.....

Hi guys/girls

I live in England and recently bought a '98 Softail heritage springer. The bike came from Spain and was, I believe, a grey import from the US.
Spain uses the metric system and thus the speedo was changed to KM instead of miles.
I bought it as such but now want to go back to miles as that's what we use in the UK. I have found a used speedo with miles but now comes the question. When I swap the speedo, will the odometer still record kilometres or not??
Your help would be greatly appreciated.....

If it’s an electronic odometer it will record in km. The BCM would have to be reprogrammed at the dealer to register in miles.

If it’s an electronic odometer it will record in km. The BCM would have to be reprogrammed at the dealer to register in miles. And retain existing data.

Unless something is different.
Your 1998 model came with a needle speedometer with an LCD odometer.
The speedometer is a hard wired speedometer and does NOT have a plug behind speedometer.
Miles or Kilometers ridden is only stored in the speedometer.
It is not a Can Bus bike.
A new speedometer starts at zero.
A used speedometer starts with whatever is in the unit.

The speedometer works via a pulse.
The speed sensor is the same for both the kph and mph but you can reconfirm.
Remember that speedometer is the only thing recording distance already ridden.
Add a brand new unit and it starts at zero.

Would using the common overlay sticker be an option?
inexpensive, easy and functional.

When you swap the speedo on a 98 heritage from one registering kilometers to one that measures miles, the odometer and trip meters will also register miles.. The bike will have the miles of whatever is one the speedo you buy.

FWIW the 98 won't have a BCM..
