Brake light tee and switch on mine. But stock it would have been mounted to the transmission plate.

My 71 and 72 FX both have that bracket. The mid control peg mount attaches to the transmission cover studs and that vertical bracket.

I thought the FL's used it for the rear exhaust support?

My 1976 FX and FLH both have that bracket / tab. I don't think the FLH uses it, but on the FX the rear brake light switch attaches to it.

The FLH has a pressure based switch that is in a tee bolted to the trans plate. The FX(E) has an electrical switch that is mechanically actuated (via a link to the pedal) when the brake pedal is pushed.

I had to look to find a picture that shows the forward controls and brake light switch on the FX model. Look for the red circle and arrow showing the switch location.

Paul

The upper large hole is for the exhaust , FL I assume and the FX uses only the smaller lower hole for the mid control mount. Dual purpose tab.

My 1970 FL only has the upper hole, no lower hole.

I agree the support plate for the passenger buddy peg may also use that bracket.
