Default Sober October? Yeah Right!

Yesterday while riding home from a great ride, I made a stop, well off the road, to adjust my chin strap as it was blowing in the wind. BIG MISTAKE!! I was well off the road, in fact in an deacceleration lane about 50 yards prior to a right hand turn, flashers on, motor still running, sitting still on the bike....
when all of a sudden a large LARGE delivery truck came up behind me and slammed on his brakes, skidded about 25 feet or so, and then blew his airhorn at me, It scared the **** out of me!! This is a major 4 lane highway with 2 lanes in each direction, separated by a grassy medium, speed limit is 55? (more like 65-70). He, the trucker, went on his way, making the right hand turn ahead like nothing ever happened.
So sober October lasted all of 3 days. I came home shaking like a leaf and had a couple of stiff drinks. Be safe out there, even truckers are texting or whatever.

If you were in the deceleration lane, you were not well off the road. The deceleration lane is part of the road.............just saying.

Glad you are okay and did not get rear ended by the truck.

I never stop anywhere on the highway if absolutely possible. I worked with guys driving service vans that pulled over on the shoulder all the time. To me its accident waiting to happen. Glad you came out ok.

what's a "deceleration" lane on a 4 lane divided hi-way ?
Never heard of it.
were you out of the right lane completely and on the shoulder ?

Never stop a running bike on the shoulder of any road. Exit and pull into a parking lot.

People keep getting stupider and cars are getting faster. I got passed by two idiots that were racing or road raging in small SUV's this morning. Bring back the 4 cylinder family cars that were gutless. Watch your mirrors and find a parking lot if you need to stop. I see riders stopped under bridges on the interstate when it's raining. Keep going and pour the water out of your boots later.

I always get on the backside of the guardrail if I stop under a bridge; I leave the flashers on too.

I see people stopped in the deceleration lane all the time. It is a dumb idea, it is for vehicles to slow down, prior to exiting a highway.
Keep going in that deceleration lane and make a safe exit, then pull off the road.

Live another day.

As for sober October, I never heard of it. I doubt it is real.
