Default How picky are you when buying a new bike?

Yesterday I went and looked at 2 brand new bikes both were 2024 models

The first was a Kawasaki Z900RS SE, it has both analog gauges along with a small digital / LCD screen and it had hairline scratches on the digital display

The second was a Red Rock and Vivid Black Heritage which I have been really considering buying (already have the cast wheel set in preparation for a purchase) but people can't put their leg over without scuffing up the lids to both saddle bags

I didn't bother talking to the salesperson to find out if they would replace the lids or not if I purchase the bike

Maybe I am a bit

Yeah, not sure why the lids and things like screens aren't covered with a protective clear vinyl or something while in the showroom

covered in the showroom isn't a bad idea ... As far as real world use ... Care makes a difference ... My2009 FLHTCU ( Black, of course ) lids still look like new ... Red takes great care when "coming aboard"

Over the years, with prices escalating and dealership service going down, I have become more and more picky.

Over the last few decades I have employed the following methodology when purchasing, and it has worked well for me. If the new bike is not in new condition, they will have to adjust their price accordingly...or I will go somewhere else.

In both cases I would ask the dealer to try and correct the problem, if they couldn't I would not accept delivery.

When I lay out the money for a new motorcycle, car, whatever I expect it to be in perfect condition at time of purchase.

you could ask the dealer to buff out the scratches in the lids. unless they are really horrible, then they could be corrected to the point of you never even knowing they were there.

I think it depends on what the real "problems" are. Are they cosmetic and relatively easily fixed or replaced? If so, are they few? Is the paint the right color for you? If not, that is a fairly expensive change but perhaps the bike has a whole ton of other accessories that you would have eventually done anyway? Such as engine guard, saddlebag guards, grips, pegs, bars, etc. ie: Cost offset.

How does it feel going down the road? For example, I liked the appearance of the Fat Boy, and it was fast, but it was just too much "work" to handle and make it lean. I really loved the appearance of the Road King, but it just wasn't comfortable. The bike has to fit you. Can bars or a different seat help make it what you want?

Overall does the bike "speak to you" in the showroom AND give you that warm and fuzzy after the test ride? Or is it just meh?

Food for thought.
