Throwing on a K&N filter on stock Softail AC will do very little. I took a Touring AC assembly, cut a wedge out of the lower black part on the top cover (some may be chrome), threw in a K&N touring filter (has a much wider filter area on the forward facing part than a stock filter). Results are a LOT more air flow, and looks like a stock touring. The base plate of the Touring AC doesn't need cutting. Just take the screws out of the intake manifold mounting bracket, tilt the intake up, and you get just enough room to work the base in there. Just remember to re-install the intake manifold mounting bracket screws. But, I did this just because I could, you can buy an Arien Ness big sucker for Touring for around $189.
Looks jus t about the same, but you still need the stock Tour AC top cover to finish it off. have fun,

I have a heavy breather. Not screaming Eagle. Not sure what it is. It is not labeled and was on the bike when I purchased it used. Recently I had a long interesting discussion with a friend who is quite knowledgeable about bikes. Personally I just ride. It started with me discussing a new cam and trying to get a good sound out of my 2019 Heritage M8 114 and the annoying whistle it has. According to him, they look cool but heavy breathers do nothing for performance and not worth the money.
He has an Arlen Ness and looks awesome. With his cam and pipes, it sounds great!
