Default 2004 Carb'd swapping to 2012 1200 with FI...

I have a 2004 carb'ed 883, I was looking for an engine for it, and found a 2012 1200 with FI for a decent price.

I figured I would have to use the 2012 wiring harness, with the speedo, etc.

What things should I look out for putting the engine in the '04?

I believe in K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. Yer looking at it the WRONG WAY!!!! Don't convert an 04 CARB'd 883 to EFI. Convert an EFI engine to a CARB. Look into HAMMER PERFORMANCE for the EFI to CARB intake manifold. Both engines ignition is triggered by a Crankshaft Position Sensor. Just take off all the EFI crap and enjoy it.

Would keeping the engine EFI be that hard if I am swapping the whole wiring harness?

Nothing is hard given enough time and money. Going with a carb would save both most likely.

What's wrong with your 883? And, what's wrong with the 1200? Why the hybridization project?

Don't forget you also need a tank that accommodates the fuel pump, and oxygen sensors in your exhaust.

I like FI. But if I had a working carb, I certainly would not make the effort to replace a good carb. This year I had TC bored for 250 plus pistons. Bore that thing to 1200, or whatever the kids do.

883 has a bad rod knock, rear con rod has about 1/8" play up/down.

Original plan was to get another engine for the bike, and found the 2012 1200 for under $1000 (police impound, non-title-able police/towing contractor bill of sale/release).

I figured eventually I wanted to go 1200 on it, and this was an all-in-one solution.

I have the whole bike for the donor engine. so I have everything on it... except a title to be able to tag it.

oh, and front forks (bent), and tires (front had a slice from the fender, rear is just 9 years old)...
