Default Can I remove this bolt?

Hey All,

In the state of PA they can no longer put inspection stickers on the plate shown in the attached picture.
So my new sticker is on the forks. I'd like to remove the plate but don't know if it's okay to remove that bolt that's holding it in place.
The bike is sitting on the kickstand. Is that bolt holding 2 parts of the motorcycle together, If I remove it can they become misaligned?
I will put the bolt back in once the plate is removed.....
TIA

It's like a mattress tag man, you gotta leave that ugly pos on your bike until the day it finds it's way to the scrap heap or face penalty of fine or imprisonment

Is that bolt for the passenger footboard bracket? It looks like it is, but I can tell you that’s not the original bolt. It should be a 5/16-18 x 1 hex socket head shoulder bolt, part #4916.

In that case that fastener is for the BRACKET,RR ENG MNT | rear fork (left) and the OEM part number is a 3057 (7/16-14 x 1-1/4 hex head w/washer w/lock patch). That fastener on your bike may not be the OEM fastener.

I can’t tell you if it’s safe to remove it or not.

.

I took a look at the service manual. In my case the 2011 Touring Service Manual, Chassis chapter, rear fork section. I see no reason why you can not remove the screw (fork bracket screw) to delete the tag.

It indicates 2 drops of blue Loctite before installing it.

2.21 REAR FORK, Installation/Apply two drops of
Loctite Medium Strength Threadlocker 243 (blue)
to threads 55-65 ft-lbs
