Default Am I right or am I dumb.

So I got a 2019 FLHP (police road king) with 7200 miles on it. I bought it from a Harley dealer in Indianapolis and they said they did a 3 hole service on it prior to me buying it and I believe them. I also got the oil changed once after I bought it because I wanted to establish a relationship with a local shop and also to know exact mileages for intervals and it needed tires blah blah blah. Point is the bike was made in december of 2018. It has started puking oil out of the transmission cavity vent tube. It also shows nothing on the transmission dip stick. It shows nothing while on the side stand and it also shows nothing while vertical which leads me to believe its got the sumping issue. I have some suspicion its puking out the vent tube because the low oil level in the transmission is causing the remaining fluid to froth but thats just a suspicion.

my question for those of you who are much better educated in these matters is does it sound like im on the right track or could it be something else? Im basically ready to just do a full on stage 2 upgrade at this point. Bike is otherwise mechanically fully stock. I’m not worried aboit dropping a few grand on it, i plan to keep it for at least another decade. Just looking for some internet hate or some reassurance or maybe even some confirmation.

For some added info the bike has a 114 motor and now has right at 10,000 miles so I put on about about 3k since i got it. Roughly 2500 since last oil change. At that time all fluids looked good. My riding is pretty damn mild. 50-150 mile trips, typically 2-3.5k rpm. Im not beating the bike although once in a while i redline it getting on the interstate or something. I just kind of assumed the low transmission fluid and the fact the bike was built in December of 2018 was the tell tale sign of sumping. I havent checked the primary because i do t want to buy seals and f@‘k with it in my garage….

Sumping is an engine issue.

Transmission fluid level has nothing to do with sumping.

Your issue sounds like oil migration from the transmission to the primary.

Check to see if the primary vent has been installed.

Why wouldn’t you buy a seal kit to check the primary? The derby cover gasket/o-ring kit is $6.95- kind of dumb not to do that.

I don't know why the trans fluid would show empty but to know if it's coming from primary, pull the cover and look. Lot of guys reuse the seal but they are pretty cheap. Just make sure you have nice torque bits to take out screws. I use a little hammer impact lightly, to break screws loose just to be safe.. Don't want to strip them, I know. Could call an run it by your dealer too?

Fair enough, take it to a shop... but, removing the clutch inspection cover (derby cover) is pretty easy as long as you use the proper size torx driver.. (T-27, not T-25)

Be ready for oil to spill out when the cover is loosened....

I have reused the derby cover gasket several times without a leak. Just treat it nicely, and make sure it's not nicked or cut before reusing it...

At least now you know why it was traded in with only 7200 miles..

In any case, let us know the resolution....

I would recommend new seals and gaskets to any rider, but I have reused primary gaskets multiple times, as long as they aren't damaged and you follow the proper torque sequence. I think one in particular I took off and put back on at least 3 times, and it never leaked.
