Default Sifton Oil Pump Drive Gear Kit - 12-1505

Has anyone upgraded their early style OEM cast iron oil pump with this Sifton high-flow kit? Here's what Dennis Kirk says (or Sifton does) about this kit:
  • Sifton high flow pinion shaft oil pump drive gear for 1939-1953 Overhead Valve Big Twins.
  • 6 tooth gear increases oil flow rate by approximately 25%.
Just curious as even if bottom end checks out, I'll be pulling the timing cover and was considering doing this upgrade if worth it.

Thanks.

I have never found that helped the early engines - they have just the right amount of oil volume and its 70 years old and did not disintegrate into a heap

but who am i to stop someone from over oiling and making it leak more. Then it ever has

Hah! Well, I wouldn't want more leaks, as this thing rarely leaves more than a drop from the scroll 'seal' on the crank, or from the crankcase vent.

Cool, thanks for weighing in, John. I'll leave the OEM pump alone, save for a new spring and ball while I'm futzing with the engine.
