The carb on my '82 XLH has a cracked plastic inlet which is dripping fuel onto the exhaust crossover pipe. You can see the crack on the bottom side in the picture below. Obviously not a good thing. I've looked at rebuild kits but can't find anything for the original carb, let alone the plastic inlet. I'm not even sure if it can be removed. I have not torn the carb down yet, so wanted to get input from you guys as to what can be done about it.

I'd prefer not to spend money on an aftermarket carb just for this issue, and I would like to disassemble the carb and rebuild/clean it this winter when it's down, since the bike has sat for about 15 years. It currently runs okay, but does have a slight miss at idle, which may be due to it sitting.

So my questions are:
Is this part available somewhere?
Can it even be removed? Or do I need to use some sort of epoxy to try and repair it as is?
Where can I find a rebuild kit?
And I'd like to know if there are any articles or links to these original carbs that I can read up on.

I have a lifetimes experience working as a mechanic, on everything imaginable, including race cars. That doesn't look to difficult, with some patience and experience working on old stuff. And I have no shortage of tools for any job.

That's kinda funny. 1982 had OEM Keihin Butterfly carb. The Keihin CV-40 did not show up till 1989. No matter, both use the same POS plastic elbow. CV Performance or denniskirk.com should help ya out.
