Default Going to the Sun highway

Going to the Sun highway. Do I need a reservation to enter Glacier National Park(GNP)?

I bet they have a website. Its a great ride. I stayed in Coram by the park, small motel with a bar across the street. Ever Green motel I think. And Packers roost down the road, another bar. The unit we had was a hill.

After Glacier we road wet and north a day, about 350 miles to Banff. Spent a day there and couple in Jasper. If you can't go to Alaska the Columbia Ice Fields are the next best thing, and Lake Loiuse.

Going West to East, you need a time pass reservation. Park is open 24/7. You can enter the going to the sun with just your park pass prior to 6 AM or after 3:00 PM. You can enter from East Glacier as you see fit. Hit the west park entrance before 5:30 AM and enjoy your ride without those RVs blocking your view. I enjoy the ride both directions, but riding up from the West is far more scenic as you are overlooking the hairpins and the best turnouts are on your side. It’s not bad after 3, sun is now behind you. I often stay on the east glacier side. That said, all the tourist activity is West of Logan Pass. It’s about 35 miles from the west entrance and about 20 from the east. Most of the hairpins are on the west side, mostly sweepers on the east. That Canadian smoke in this picture.

Bring riding gear for all four seasons !! I scoffed at that advice at my own peril😂we baked in the sun and got soaking wet and cold and muddy! But incredible ride and scenery, just breathtaking, enjoy!!!

I’m jealous! We got hosed last June going cross country. The NPS took our $20 a head and the road along the lake was bombed put and wet and slippery dirt-clay.

And we didn’t get any elevation because the road was closed due to snow.

NPS had no business allowing bikes on that section of road.😫🤬

Those of us living in the Rockies know the mountain passes are not open until early July. Snow and cold anytime of year. Logan pass is no different and is about 7000’. Yet, in august it can be 100F. Thunderstorms are normal, just as they are in Yellowstone. June is early, risky at best, but you can get lucky. Officially it opens late May, but those with 2 wheel western mountain experience are ready to take route 2 around rather than follow a snow plow over going to the sun. Hope you had better riding on the rest of your trip.
