S&s 124 motor question

You can still run a belt drive. But the question is, how will you ride it? Do you plan to beat on it, burn outs, power shift, etc.? If yes, the belt may not hold up long. If you just want to enjoy rolling the throttle on and feeling and using the new power, a belt is 100% fine.
After all, you can break a belt with a stock motor if you abuse it enough.

The high compression T124 from S&S dynos out around 135 to 140 HP, and about the same or a little more in torque. There are many TC's and M8's running around with that kind of power on a belt. The motor only puts out to the driveline what you tell it to. Rear belts are pretty darn reliable even when you add power. Unless you abuse it and shock the driveline.
I've been running 140 HP from a 124" on a rear belt for better than six years, haven't broke it yet. But I don't shock the driveline. The belt also has 70k miles on it, I make sure it's adjusted properly.

So far, I have 24K miles @149 lb/ft of torque on the belt, and I am a spirited rider. My friends and I have had more issues with transmissions than anything else if we are being stupid and decide to race each other out in the middle of nowhere.
Our belts still look good. We do pay attention to them, and keep them properly adjusted.
I am determined to stick with a belt. Too many years of high power liter+ bikes maintaining 530X chains and sprockets. Done with the mess of it all.

I have a FuelMoto 124" crate engine (S&S) that dyno'd at 135HP/151TQ.
I have a total of 40K miles on that bike, the last five years and 20K miles with the above engine. I "play" a little now & then, but nothing that remotely resembles abuse. No burnouts, wheelie attempts, or drag racing style clutch dumps.
I just completed the 40K mile service and my rear drive belt is OEM, and in great condition.
