Twin cam 103 ran great and then started missing and sneezing
Good morning all. I have a weird question. Yesterday I rode my bike to work in the morning, about a 2-mile trip. The bike ran great as usual on the way to work, when I went to leave for lunch around 1, I started the bike and it started fine as normal, and then as it started to warm up, it started to idle a little funny, when I went to take off it did not want to keep running, I had to keep messing with the throttle to keep it going. Once I would get moving, it would run fine, but as soon as I had to take off from a stop it would start missing and sneezing. Once I got home I let it idle for about a minute and it started to sputter bad and started sneezing and then died with a big sneeze. I left it at home and drove to work let it cool off and tried to start it when I got home and the same thing. Now, if you play with the throttle while idling, once you get it to quit stuttering and sneezing it will idle itself up pretty high and then begin to idle down again and start the same cycle over.
I am kind of at a loss because the bike ran great the day before on a 10-12 mile ride and great that morning.
Thoughts I have had are coil, wires, and plugs, but right now I am not sure.
Things that are done to the bike so we can help troubleshoot are:
Exhaust
Air cleaner
585 cams
adjustable pushrods
Power Commander 3 with a tune from Fuel Moto.

I had similar issues with difficulty locating/maintaining proper idle.
First thing to look at is how clean the intake is. look at that butterfly and if it has visible residue on it, then so does the IAC plunger.
Shoot a bunch of cleaner up into the small hole located at 12:00 in the intake throat. That will clean up the IAC valve.
Another thig that happened to my bike was a failed PCIII tuner; it actually prevented the rear cylinder from getting spark.
I figured this out by disconnecting the tuner and running the bike in stock form. When it ran fine w/o the tuner, that's when the PCIII went into the trash.

The IAC sounds like a typical source for that problem.
I see you are looking at electrical issues, but it might also be fuel pressure. A dirty fuel filter and/or leaking lines in the tank can have similar effects you're describing.
You should also check for codes just as matter of elimination.

There are no codes. I have already done that, which is what is really confusing me. Even bad gas you'd think a code would come up after a bit. I did drain almost all of the gas out and am going to put some fuel treatment in when I fill it up later.
I have also cleaned the throttle body out just to be safe, but it was pretty clean. The fuel filter is next on my list of things as I am going to go through the manual this evening and see how to change it. I don't think it is a fuel line, I don't hear or see any signs of fuel spraying in the tank. I need to find a fuel pressure gauge though so that I can keep an eye on it.
And yes, I put the tune back to stock and re loaded the tune from Fuel Moto and it still did the same thing. Once what little weather we have passed us by, I will be going to get some gas and ride around my town to see if if clears up any.
