Default 117 with Stage II Power cam

Greetings,

Have an LRS ST on order and am curious about the engine. Being that the 117 was only available in the CVO's, has anyone done the Stage 2 Power cam and was it worth it?

How did the power band change? Did it still have a strong low end?

Very much appreciated....

I inquired when my cvo 117 was new and found out the torque cam is not available for the 117 so I asked about the power cam. Was told that my bike may perform a little worse on bottom with the power cam over stock but would have a better top end. I ended up with a S+S 475 and was very happy:

I actually just finished the stage 2 SE 462 Power cam on my 2020 CVO 117 and me personally think it was worth every penny. Everyone said it will cause a loss of low end torque which, at least in my case, proved totally untrue. I actually picked up torque in the lower rpm range and gained a bunch of HP in the upper rpm range. My thoughts are that most of that information comes from the 462 installed in a 107 or 114. Evidently the 117 must be different. The HD parts catalog has a dyno graph showing the results of the 462 cam installed in a 117 and there is torque and HP gains across the board compared to a stock 117. In my case, that proved absolutely true. I have all screamin eagle parts as well. There are many aftermarket cams out there that will give you stronger results, so it's really all what you are after. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Imo, comparing a cam in a touring bike versus a cruiser wouldn't be a good benchmark to go off of. I'd try to find some info on a cam'd cruiser that someone did a 117 kit on.

An engine that was made into a 117 by a kit is not the same as a stock 117 with a cam.

Fuel moto has a number of DYNO sheet posted for the HD 117 with different CAM and exhaust. If you thinking about the HD SE cam do your home work it will not deliver much. Surely not wort the cost. Stage 2 with SE parts is about the same as a poor stage 1 .

True, different pistons and what not. I was just thinking that'd be a better comparison than trying to judge how the low end will be between two bikes with a 160 lb weight difference.

The 117 has what is considered a hotter cam than the 107/114, which share the same cam, between the each other. Although, the 117 still isn't the 447, it is closer than the stock 107/114 cam. The cams for all the stock bikes are designed to be EPA compliant, which is funny that an EPA tune with the 447, when installed with the 119 and 122 kits has an approved tune...but no approved tune for the 117. With the right tune and capable tuner the 447 can be a very worthy cam. Have seen 125tq and 106hp in a 114, with the stock headpipe and a non-SE tuner, and I'd have to believe that 130-ish tq and 110-ish hp could be seen in a 117...even better with cat removed or aftermarket head pipe of choice. The point being that those that already have a 447 could have better numbers instead of the expense of changing cams and not just getting a better tune (tuner) and then only have similar numbers.

SE stage 3 117 is not even putting out those numbers so pretty safe to say you can forget it with just a SE 447 or 462 cam.

That's why I stated Non SE Tuner...No recipe from the MOCO will accomplish it. That's why I stated capable tuner...
