If it’s not broke, fix it?

If it’s not broke, fix it?
I’m likely going to be moving far from my beloved dealers service department. These guys have taken good care of me over the years and I hate to leave, but warmer, year round riding and 1/4 the cost of living is calling us hard.
Talking to them recently, they suggested the 2020 oil pump and primary vent as proactive, preventative “maintenance”.
So before I go, I’m wondering if I would want to have them install them on my otherwise perfect 2019 Road King S. Simply as a matter of “piece of mind”. They would do it for me at their cost (I was told) and while I’m in there I may upgrade the cam to something better then the 447 that’s in there.
I’ve always leaned towards “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” but this seems like a sensible project considering I’m planning on keeping this longer then my usual 2 years lol.
What do you think?

Yeah, I think it makes sense. Now to decide on a cam.
I put a RS468 in my LRS, which gave me only 106HP but a very pleasant 128 ftlbs, breaking 120 at 2200 RPMs. On that “light” bike it is crazy. I’m thinking of choosing the same cam here. It also has the same base circle as stock so I can retain the stock solid pushrods, which I prefer. I already have fueling lifters so this project will make the motor as bulletproof as I could hope for.
However I’m going to continue to look at other cam specs.

like you I tend to subscribe to the leave well enough alone for peace of mind approach..but since you're 'planning on keeping it' for quite awhile..ditto on the LOL...getting a good deal from a service department you trust to do it right, and since HD appears to have improved the functionality regarding these two problems they have been working on to fix..probably not a bad idea to just

Me too. The 8 lobe 2020 pump is something like $109 on Surdyke. I have started gathering the stuff I need (shop manual, sprocket tool, calipers, shim kit (will buy if needed) and I will do this myself when winter starts to set in. And I will put the primary vent in while I have the bike up in the air. Now that I’m over the urge to buy a 2020 CVO.....
