Default Adding Security System to 17 SG

I’ve been researching how I might add the Factory Security System to my 17 SG. Through posts on this board I think I have learned that the Body Control Module (BCM) is where this is done. I read there are 6 different BCMs, three of which contain various security system options. There isn’t any data that I can find on HD Parts, Surdyke, or other searches. I do understand the HD programming will be required

Has anyone done this on an M8? Part number(s) for module?

TIA

My 17 came with security which disabled the bike without the FOB being present. Did yours? All I did was added the audible alarm for $25.00.

I think the SG/RG standards didn't have security on them. Specials did.

You will probably need a kit like this: https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...ecurity-system And it will need to be programed by the dealer. Additionally, if you want the siren function you will need to purchase the siren kit: https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...17-6832806a--1

Cant say for the 17's, but we had two 18 standards and both had security and 6.5 boom.

I added a security system to my 15, I purchased a security-enabled BCM from an online Harley Dealer store. Rode to a dealership. Swapped the BCM out in the parking lot. It's a single plug behind the left side cover if I remember correctly. and had them push it into a service bay to program the fobs. They wanted $500 for the install alone, I was only charged $100 for programing the gobs.

Some dealerships pay for the upgraded sound and security when the purchase them from the factory. I know personally, my local dealer won't get a standard from the plant without those two upgrades.

I looked into adding this to my '17 SG a while back. it is the body control module (BCM) that needs to be replaced with one that includes security. The key fob(s) will then need to be activated by a dealer. The part number I have in my notes for 2014+ touring models is 41000087E, which HD conveniently doesn't sell anymore (on Harley-Davidson.com anyway - maybe the dealers still do), however, you can find them all over online HD stores (i.e. Utah Harley, Surdyke, etc.).

Pretty straightforward install (instructions):
1. Remove seat
2. Remove BCM
3. Install new BCM and antenna
4. Install seat
5. Go to dealer to have the key fobs activated (better yet, just do the install in the dealer parking lot so you don't have any issues getting the bike there).

Brandon, That is a truly valuable post. I had found that kit before but on HD.com it isn’t for my bike. I look on Surdyke and then other places it is as you say, 2014 touring and later. Perfect! I will be getting that and doing a little parking lot mod at my local dealer.

Awesome!

Glad I could help. CORRECTION: The BCM is located behind the left side cover, not under the seat. So instead of removing the seat, remove the left saddle bag and then the left side cover.

Not sure which part of DFW you're in but Longhorn is the least helpful to anyone that does their own work. They'll probably tell you it was installed wrong and charge you an hour to 'fix it'...
