Shouldn't this light go out after a system check when the bike is powered up via the ignition switch ?

According to the FSM U1255 indicates either TSM/TSSM or Speedometer communication issues, usually there is another U series code accompanying the U1255 such as U1064 or U1097, U1064 would indicate TSM and U1097 is Speedometer.

The headlight, taillight, running lights, break light, and horn all work.
I just got the TSM off of the bike and it had corrosion inside and one of the pins is broken off of it. I think I found my issue.

Awesome - I just came in from working in the yard. My next suggestion was going to be to disconnect ECM and TSM and look at pins and sockets.

What is the PN - I might have one.

Thank you for offering to help and for the advice.
I just hope that a new TSM fixes the issue.
