Does this cylinder start working after a few minutes? Or does it stay dead?

This was the first start up since December. I let the bike warm up a good 5 minutes before I attempted riding it. I would say it stays dead

The wire between the coil and ecu showed .05 continuity, so it’s not broken.

Both plug wires were in spec as well

I am a bit confused here. The ignition module, from what I understand, is supposed to be located on the belt side of the engine case behind a circular cover. I removed that cover and there isn’t anything there, a blank casting?

Can you clarify the difference between the ignition module and the ECU for me?

I looked up a breakdown for the sportster, if I am understanding everything the entire system which is responsible for ignition of fuel is as follows

battery
ignitiion module
wiring harness
coil
plug wires
plugs

is that correct? If so is it safe to assume my ignition module is at fault? Considering you can’t test them from what I have read

Im probably not 100% correct, but the difference between the ICM you and i have (04 - 06) and an ECU is application. ICMs are used to control ignition timing in carburetor bikes, ECUs are used to control ignition in fuel injected bikes (07 and later sportys). Im sure someone else will chime in with a more complete/correct answer though.

it could very well be faulty, you might want to check all the wires first since that would be a lot cheaper to repair. Possible bad ground? A new ICM can be a bit spendy, so make sure you try all the cheap stuff first.

Thanks for the replies man. I feel I have tested about everything, I ended up ordering a new ignition module. You are correct it was pricey. At the end of the day I just want to enjoy my bike. Spend enough time working, working on stuff, and worrying.

thanks everyone for the replies. I’ll update soon with hopefully good news
