What did you do to Your Sportster Today?

That's special. :-)
You guys quit talking about your fancy aftermarket exhausts. I live in a neighborhood for the first time in about 9 years and I'm trying SO HARD to keep the stock exhaust in place. I normally leave for work no later than 6am. TRYING to be nice to the neighbors.

I'm going to try some stainless spring washers today to see if that keeps ol' shakey tight in the places that count.

I think standard practice is to replace the flange retaining ring (along with gasket), as that ring gives some spring pressure to help lock the nuts down when torqued correctly. I didn't do that.

Not sure how many times the stock graphite gasket is 'reusable'
so-to-speak. Personally, I'm going to try some James gaskets next.
T.(if I could only get the rebuild to that point)

I think for most people it's a once-and-done kind of thing, and depending on the shape of the mating surface of the new pipes, leaving the originals on is fine, so long as they weren't damaged/deformed during removal of the stockers. I certainly don't hear or see any evidence of exhaust leak on mine.
