If you occasionally forget and twist the left grip on your '17 bike before starting, you're probably old school.

The left twist grip cable was gone. I had to reach down to the right of the engine, unhook a little chain, and then twist it with my hand, start it, twist it back, and hook up the little chain again.
Back in my day our bikes didn't even have a kick starter. We had to push-start the bike up a big hill. Kickers were for the new soft generation. We didn't have any need for those pansy *** brakes neither. We ground to a halt with our bare feet like men.
We knew how to fix the bike with nothing but straw, toenail clippings and a stick.

And all y'all are misspelling "old skool."
What, they didn't sell Chevrolet carb return springs in Idaho back then?
Well, I am literally on the second set of wheels on my bike. I built them myself and mounted them right around 200,000 miles. Does that count as "riding the wheels off"?
With the "quality" of the current wheel bearings, it only takes a few thousand to, literally, ride the wheels off...
